WM is an international cooperation project that was born in Spain and now has come to Brazil, though soon will fly around the world!

In many texts and subtitles, we kept the original language (Spanish).

We are a network of individuals, companies and associations interested in the end of stigma and social exclusion of people diagnosed with mental disorders .

Here you will find a welcoming space so that these people can have the opportunity to share their experiences and their artistic work, providing a happier and fulfilled life.

We also want to provide greater mobilization about this subject , and we want to count on volunteers, sponsors and partnerships associated with the cause.

beyond diagnosis

Have you ever been diagnosed with a mental disorder or do you know someone who did? It can be scary, isn't it? Fear of the diagnosis, doubt, uncertainty are feelings that almost always accompany the diagnosis.

It's not easy to hear : You have a mental disorder. After all, what does that mean? Does it mean I'm upset? And that I'm bound to live like this for the rest of my life?

According to the dictionary, the word disorder means “an alteration in conditions considered normal in an object, process or organism”. By understanding ourselves outside of “normality”, we end up feeling, consciously or unconsciously, “abnormal”. And this can be heartbreaking, both for the person who receives the diagnosis, as well as for their families and loved ones.

The stigma and fear are so great that we can begin to identify with the diagnosis itself, as if it defined who we are. It is very common to hear: “I am bipolar or I am Schizophrenic”. But does the disorder really define us as the human beings we are? With all our potentials and virtues, despite the pains that arise from the loss of our own conscience?

For Worthyminds , yes, words do matter!

Saying “ I have a diagnosis of bipolarity or schizophrenia” is different from saying “ I am bipolar or schizophrenic”. Because we understand that crises do not define the person we are, because we are much more than crises.

This does not mean ignoring the diagnosis, on the contrary. Understanding the symptoms we have is important to track the journey of care, and is essential to prevent crises from occurring and common form continued. But understanding oneself as a person full of potential, who can go through specific moments of crisis, is liberating! If crises are seen as punctual, we fail to identify with the chronicity of the diagnosis.

Although these crises tend to be repetitive and chronic in the absence of proper treatment, they can be minimized or even extinguished when we find the right treatment for us. But what is finding an “appropriate treatment”? As we know, there are no ready-made formulas that fit all people who go through these crises. A medicine that has a positive effect for one person may not be effective for another person.

Furthermore, it is not just about avoiding crises, but living a meaningful and full life. However, medication alone may be insufficient for this, because a full life requires that we be involved in activities and experiences that are meaningful to us. And this is a reality for every human being, regardless of diagnoses.

WorthyMinds believes that we are all the same, even though we are different, and believes in the potential of every human being. Therefore, we  encourage the realization of artistic and creative activities in the recovery process of people who go through these experiences that, despite being painful, can be perceived as experiences of transformation and growth in all aspects of our lives.

We are all ears!
